Education Coordinator Kailey Peck was a citizen in 2009. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2014 with degree in History and a minor in Secondary Education. Her favorite Girls State song is “I’ve been Everywhere,” and her favorite part of Girls State is Capitol Day. She teaches AP US History and IB History of the Americas.

Education Coordinator Shelby Igaz attended Southern Methodist University where she majored in International Studies and graduated in 2014. Shelby was a citizen in 2010 and says she loves the program because of its dedication to training young, strong women to be great leaders, and the singing is great too. Shelby has previously been a JC, SC, and County Coordinator. Since graduation, Shelby has lived in Nashville to start her music career and now lives in Los Angeles where she works with a global lifestyle brand.

Chili County Coordinator Emily Schmidt was a citizen in 2008 from La Grange and was elected Tejas County Commissioner. She began working on staff as a JC in 2009 and has been on talent staff since. Emily graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a degree in Finance. Emily loves to come back each year on staff because of the friendships she has made and to give citizens the best experience she could possibly give them, just as her experience as a citizen was amazing. In the real world, Emily lives in Austin with her husband and two dogs, and works for the Legislative Budget Board.

Chili County Coordinator Jalaiyah Chisolm attends Abilene Christian University in Abilene. Jalaiyah’s favorite moments as a citizen were being elected County Attorney for her county her citizen year, getting to know her city, and going to the Capitol. She is very excited to be a counselor and to work alongside the staff this year!

Goff County Coordinator Emma Watson a 2015 citizen (and a loud and proud Zero), Emma attends Texas A&M University and studies Public Health. Her favorite Girls State memories were made in the Bill Room and on the House floor as a citizen, and she hopes to make that true for future citizens.

Goff County Coordinator Perry Hector attends the University of Texas at Austin where she studies Business. Perry loves Girls State for many reasons; one of them is the connections formed with such a diverse group of amazing people who empower each other.

Pecan County Coordinator Kirsten Handler originally from Tomball, majors in corporate communication at The University of Texas and works as the Associate Copy Desk Chief at The Daily Texan.When she attended Girls State in 2015, Kirsten was elected City F Treasurer and sang in the talent show. She returns each year to help other young women have the same empowering experience she had her citizen year.

Pecan County Coordinator Sydney Rubey is a Biology and Pre-Med student at Abilene Christian University. She is in the Honors College. Sydney’s favorite GS memory is when her SC filed her as a candidate for the wrong office. She laughed it off and had fun with it.

Tejas County Coordinator Danielle Bartz

Tejas County Coordinator Sarah Prichard attends the University of North Texas where she studies English. She plans to become a journalist and become certified to teach. She is from Rockwall and her favorite part about Girls State is that she feels like her best and most authentic self when she is there.
