Barbara Kundert was born in Sulphur Springs. She has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 37 years and is a lifetime member of Truitt-Bishop Unit 426. Barbara qualifies for membership through the service of her husband who served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. They currently live in Alvarado. Barbara served as American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Texas State President in 2009-2010. Her presidential ALA theme was “Veterans and Volunteers” and the membership motto was “Make a Path for Others to Follow.” Barbara joined the Girls State staff in 2009 working in the bank. She now handles all citizen transportation for the program. She believes the Girls State program is a core program in the ALA.
