CITY A: Mauri King graduated from Texas A&M University in 2009 with a degree in political science. Mauri was a citizen in 2004 and served as the Federal Party House Whip, and has been on staff as a JC, Party Sponsor, and SC. She has a blog, The American Patriette, where she blogs about family, hospitality and patriotism and is the author of her first children’s book, The Adventures of Pootsey the Wonderbug, which she wrote based on childhood notes from her dad. Her favorite things about Girls State are the lifelong friendships and the encouraging and inspirational atmosphere.

CITY B: Megan Rose was a citizen in 2013 and served as the Mayor of her city. She has served on staff as a JC, Party Sponsor and SC. Megan recently graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in political science. She is pursuing law and live comedy. Her favorite part about Girls State is the many lasting friendships she has made.

CITY C: Allison Thornton was a Girls State citizen in 2013. Her citizen year she was elected her city’s Health Officer. Her favorite Girls State memory is bonding with her roommate, Abigail. She recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where she majored in Marketing and French.

CITY D: Lilliebeth Halling graduated from Texas A&M University in 2014. She graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with her Masters Degree in Deaf Education and Hearing Sciences. She is currently a language teacher at The Center for Hearing and Speech in Houston and teaches children who are deaf to listen and talk. As a citizen she was elected Municipal Judge in her city.

CITY E: Kate Katzer was the Federal Party nominee for Governor during her citizen year. Kate has served as JC, Party Sponsor, and SC. She graduated from Kansas State with a degree in Secondary English Education and in the real world, she is a high school Language Arts teacher. Her favorite part of her citizen session in 2008 was bonding with her city during city activities.

CITY F: Priyanka Patel was a 2010 citizen of Bluebonnet Girls State. Priyanka has served on the Girls State Legislative Staff for five years. At Girls State, Priyanka had a great experience running for governor. Her citizen year, Priyanka was chosen to attend Girls Nation in Washington DC and returned in 2012 as a counselor. Priyanka is a graduate of The University of Texas and majored in human biology and is currently in her third year of medical school. Priyanka is grateful for the ALA and the Bluebonnet Girls State program for teaching her government, service, patriotism, and creating lifelong friendships.

CITY G: Hillary Everts graduated in 2014 from Trinity University where she studied Theatre and Communication, and Arts Management. When she was a citizen in 2009, her favorite activity was hanging out at The Spot for assemblies. She has been both a JC and a SC and can’t wait to see where she’ll end up next. When Hillary is not at Girls State she is an assistant director of admissions for Trinity University. Hillary is a member of ALA Virtual Unit.

CITY H: Kirsten Wolfford is a Government Liberal Arts Honors graduate from The University of Texas at Austin. She will be attending law school at George Washington University in Fall 2018. Kirsten attended Girls State as a citizen in 2014. She loves Girls State because of the amazing women she is able to interact with and learn from. She is a firm believer in political efficacy, friendship, education and loyalty- ideas which Girls State promotes. She has served as a Junior and Senior Counselor, and a Legislative Assistant in the past.

CITY I: Aspen Real comes to Girls State from Carrollton, Texas. She was a citizen in 2011. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2016 with a degree in Finance. Aspen is excited for the opportunity to participate in the leadership development of young Texas women, in hopes of creating a positive impact for tomorrow’s leaders.

CITY J: Pollyanna Halling graduated from Texas A&M with a Special Education degree and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with a Master’s degree in Deaf Education and Hearing Sciences. She currently teaches children who are deaf to listen and talk, which she thoroughly enjoys! She has been a JC, SC, and Party Sponsor, which was her favorite Girls State memory.  Her triplet sister, Lilliebeth, is also a staff member.

CITY K: Alli Bittner attended Girls State in 2010. She graduated in 2015 from Auburn University with a Chemical Engineering degree and currently resides in Houston, where she works for ExxonMobil. Alli enjoys watching citizens grow through their experience at Girls State and has served as a Junior Counselor, County Coordinator, Legislative Assistant, Senior Counselor, and President of the Senate.

CITY L: Dani Throneberry was a 2013 citizen, Danielle graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a B.B.A. in Marketing. Her favorite memory from her Girls State citizen year was getting to know her JC’s and SC as well as developing into her own person amongst other ambitious young women.

CITY M: Kallie Kram was a citizen in 2011 and attends Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Kallie has served as a party sponsor, county coordinator, JC and SC in previous sessions. She has a genuine passion for the Girls State program and truly loves seeing how citizens develop as strong women in leadership throughout the session.

CITY N: Emalee Harmon was a citizen in 2005 when she was elected Federal Party Senate Whip. She graduated in 2012 from the University of North Texas with a Masters of Public Administration with an emphasis in Local Government. She currently works for State Farm as a Risk Analyst. Texas Girls State has had an amazing impact on her life. She still keeps in contact with citizens from her city and staff from over the years.  Educating and empowering young women on their civic duties is a passion she truly treasures.
