GS Talent 2019 (l to r): Lawry, Janke, Thibodeaux, Rodriguez.

Phyllis Janke: Phyllis is the most senior member of the prestigious Zero Club on staff this year at Girls State, which she joined in 1975. Though she could do any job at Girls State, she has always been on Talent Staff. Phyllis says she loves the way the girls gain confidence in themselves throughout the session and when they leave GS, they are ready to make a positive impact on their hometowns and our world. In the real world, she is a retired elementary music teacher in Richmond. She lives on a farm in Needville with her husband, numerous animals and her beloved cat Willow (you can follow her on Instagram @adventures_of_willow). Phyllis is a member of ALA Unit 350.

Sarah Lawry: Sarah was a citizen in 2000 and served as her city song leader and a precinct chair. She joined the Girls State staff as a JC and then an SC, and shortly thereafter she found her home in the talent staff as the original Bluebonnet Girl. She lives in Prosper with her husband and three children, and in her free time she sings in her band “Faded Blue.” Fun fact: Sarah can remember every Girls State song that she’s ever written including her song from her year as a citizen.

Megan Thibodeaux: Megan was a citizen in 2010 and was the county tax assessor-collector. When she’s not singing at Girl’s State, she teaches music at an elementary school in Bastrop, TX. She loves to go hiking with her fiancé, Leo, and her dog, Marty. She feels so blessed to be a part of the best state in the land! She hopes to continue contributing to this wonderful program as a member of the talent staff.

Gabi Rodriguez: Gabi was a citizen in 2016 and is enjoying her third year on staff. She attends the University of Houston Moores School of Music, studying music education and french horn performance. She will always remember the friends she made, the songs she sang, and the lessons she learned in her time at Girls State.
