Floor Leaders for both the House and Senate have been chosen for the 2015 session.  In the House, Elizabeth Jowers represents the National Party and Ashley Pickhardt represents the Federal Party.  In the Senate, Ellie Hamzy represents the National Party and Hope Henderson represents the Federal Party.

Lori Swann, Director of Texas Bluebonnet Girls State officially welcomed citizens to the 2015 session on Monday, June 15th. Citizens were also treated to addresses by Donna Miller, President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Texas, and Lynn Ellen Sparks, Commander of the American Legion, Department of Texas. Commander Sparks is only the second woman to ever serve in that position. A true Girls State success story was shared by Donna Dodgen, a citizen of the 1978 session. Ms. Dodgen is now Mayor pro tem of the City of Seguin. The President of Texas Lutheran University, Dr. Stuart Dorsey, also welcomed citizens to TLU.

Finally, 2014 Governor Andrea Guyton encouraged citizens to make the most of their time at Girls State, concluding a morning full of inspiring speeches.

2015 Citizens Arrive

Girls State citizens arrived in Seguin for the start of the 2015 session of Texas Bluebonnet Girls State on June 14th. Light showers and excited counselors and staff welcomed the new citizens, who will learn about Texas state, county, political party, and local government. Associate Director of Education Stephanie McDonald taught citizens about city government to conclude the evening.
