On June 20th, Director Swann announced City C as the winner of the 2015 Bluebonnet Cup. Girls State holds the annual competition for the Cup in which cities are awarded points for participation in legislative sessions, elections, lectures, and other parts of the program. Congratulations to the City C Cowgirls and their counselors.
Because the Girls State program is entirely non-partisan, citizens operate with mock political parties. They elect precinct, county and state party officials and write their own party platform. The National and Federal parties convened June 16, 2015, to pick their state party officials.
State Federal Party officials are Chair Cristina Pop, Vice-Chair Rachel Ogle, House Whip Gennie Mansi and Senate Whip Zoe deBeurs.
State National Party Officials are Chair Maria Duster, Vice-Chair Thao Pham, House Whip Sofia Miranda-Fred and Senate Whip Lauren Peters.
For a complete list of party officials, including county and precinct chairwomen, please download the 2015 edition of The Bluebonnet, the official newsletter of the Bluebonnet Girls State program.
The American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet Girls State Program thanks the Honorable Michael Keasler, Judge, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals for taking part in this year’s session. On Friday, June 20th, citizens traveled to Austin where Girls State senators and representatives convened their annual mock legislature in the State Capitol. Later, a joint session gathered to inaugurate newly elected state officials. The Honorable Michael Keasler, Judge, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, addressed the citizens and administered the oath of office. Judge Keasler’s commitment to Girls State is greatly appreciated; he has participated in our joint session at the Capitol for the last several years.
The 2014 Bluebonnet is now available for download! Photos from the 2014 session will be added soon. Don’t forget to take the Citizen Evaluation. You’ll need to put in the password Director Lori Swann gave you during the Closing Assembly. That password also allows you to access the 2014 Session pages under the “Staff and Citizens only” section. If you can’t remember the password, you can email the webmaster to request it.
