Gift Shop Chair Bridget Luna Trawhon: A citizen of Girls State in 1989, Bridget is a Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1994. She is currently an educator at Orangefield High School and a proud member of ALA Unit 49 in Orange. Girls State inspired her to major in Political Science and become a government teacher. In past sessions she has been a JC, SC, and City Coordinator. Her favorite Girls State memory came in 1998 when a group of SCs, including Jessica Scott, named “The Dirty Dozen,” educated the future leaders of Texas. The Girls State Gift Shop is Bridget’s favorite place to shop–in the state!
Sarah Hartman: A citizen of Girls State in 2004, Sponsored by the American Legion Unit in Caldwell. Sarah attended Texas A&M University and after her stint there, attended Beauty School in Bryan. She now works as a Professional Stylist in Caldwell where she lives with her husband Mike, step-daughter Kadie and her darling son Rhett. A fun fact about Sarah is that she is often teased to be the only one on staff that holds a state license to legally cut and style your hair at Girls State… and it has come in handy! There is a place for EVERYONE at Girls State!
Elizabeth Sutherland: A citizen of Girls State in 2008, Elizabeth represented the Caldwell chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 2013 where she attended Mays Business School. She is currently the training manager for Apogee Telecom in Austin, Texas. In past sessions, she has been a JC, party sponsor, and SC, but her favorite job of all is being a Gift Shop Gal!
Candy Zavala: This is Candy’s third year in the Girls State Gift Shop. She is a member of ALA Unit 593. Candy currently serves as the Membership Chairman of the ALA Department of Texas. Candy and her husband reside in New Berlin. Candy and her husband enjoy riding their motorcycles with the American Legion Riders-where she just won Rider of the Year! In real life, Candy’s day gig is the official court reporter for the 436th District Court in Bexar County. At night, Candy loves teaching Zumba and in her spare time she hangs out with her boys-the boxers.
